PASTOR TED HAGGARD—GAY?

Many of you will remember Pastor Ted Haggard as the foaming-at-the- mouth Evangelical preacher from Richard Dawkins Root of all Evil? documentary.  He is the director of a mega-church in that hotbed of irrationality, Colorado Springs, and is evidently privileged with a once per week direct phone call to the White House.  Pastor Ted subscribes to the tiresome litany of Christian dogmas you'd expect—the Bible is the inerrant word of God, homosexuality is a sin, evolution didn't happen, Jesus will be coming back soon to rapture all Christians into the sky, etc…

In any event, an article on Huffington-Post today reveals that a gay male escort from the area is claiming to have had a 3 year sexual relationship with Pastor Ted.  When I first read this, I said to myself (in the voice of the church-chat lady)—WELL, ISN'T THAT SPECIAL?!!

Here is the article:

It's amazing how reliably we find that people who pretend to be the pillars of virtue are themselves covertly engaging in the very behaviors they so publicly and divisively condemn.  This phenomenon is so pervasive that to me, whenever I hear a vehement homophobe spouting off publicly, it raises my suspicion that the individual himself is gay.

My intention with this post is to get your thoughts about the widespread hypocrisy of these virtuous types, religious or not, who feign moral superiority while on the mike, but indulge themselves of various forbidden fruit in their private lives.

I don't want the focus here to be homosexuality.  That is peripheral.  Pastor Ted could have been cheating on his wife with another woman and the issue would be the same—HYPOCRISY.

Your thoughts?...

If I may offer a suggestion—“reply” to this post, cut/copy and paste the following (with the BBC code and such) . . .

Here is the article:

[url=http://www.9news.com/acm_news.aspx?OSGNAME=KUSA&IKOBJECTID=a73db9d1-0abe-421a-01ee-15ec09b8ff7d&TEMPLATEID=0c76dce6-ac1f-02d8-0047-c589c01ca7bf] Man claims 3-year sexual relationship with pastor

. . . and edit the Original Post so it doesn’t stretch the screen width, making it much more difficult to follow future posts that go over a single line (forcing sideways scrolling just to read them).

SkepticX,

I attempted to change the post but was unsuccessful.

If you want to lay this out for me step-by-step, I’d be happy to change the post.

I’m sure it’s simple, but I’m not incredibly well-versed in this stuff, it’s not intuitive to me and your explanation didn’t make sense.

Let me know.

Mark. . . it *should* work if you attach the following tags (in bold):

(a right bracket) immediately  following the complete http address

then type in your label for the item, like click here for article, or whatever

then type in   immediately  after that label

no spaces between any of these

That should render the link invisible, leaving only the “click here for article” label.

This whole ordeal has just made my day. That guys face bothered me from the time I saw him, and then the words that came from the lips made me want to smash his face in.

He showed a tremendous amount of arrogance and idiocy that is rare in atheist/secular groups but rather abundant in religious groups.

Hopefully this will cause at least a handful of blindfolds to be removed from his followers.

It looks like the accuser is definitely in for the money this could generate. . . but his claim of having recorded voicemails and a written letter ought to prove interesting, if true. Making the accusation without a trail of evidence would only leave him open to a defamation lawsuit.

You say it all the time, Champ, we’re all weak, no man is above any other in terms of a propensity to sin. . . so why the doubt that Haggard may have been naughty?

Hey thanks Mia!

Very kind of you to help me out.  I truly appreciate it.

I will revise my other posts now.  Couldn’t hurt to clean them up a bit.

Thanks again!

Sincerely,
Mark

Yes, you are correct Mia. There no temptation which is not common and everyone has temptation. The reason why I doubted the story is because a person who becomes a pastor knows the stakes and knows that a higher standard goes with the job. I feel sorry for him and it is too bad that some are gloating on this thread. This guy needs forgiveness and restoration. Maybe he can pastor again some day. Also I feel sorry for the church/Christianity as it unfairly gets a bad name when things like this occur.

All people are subject to temptation. All must struggle against the flesh. But Christians are called to overcome this world through the word of their testimony, through the word of God, and through the blood of the lamb. Christains are freed from the power of sin through Christ. But any person can be tempted and drawn away of his own flesh.

We’re all so weak without Jesus and in the words of Sting (not a Christian) we need to know how fragile we are.

COLORADO SPRINGS — The Rev. Ted Haggard resigned as president of the 30 million-member National Association of Evangelicals on Thursday after being accused of paying a man for sex in monthly trysts over the past three years.

Haggard — an outspoken opponent of the drive for gay marriage — also stepped down as senior pastor at his 14,000-member New Life Church pending an investigation by a church panel, saying he could “not continue to minister under the cloud created by the accusations.”

“I am voluntarily stepping aside from leadership so that the overseer process can be allowed to proceed with integrity,” Haggard said in a written statement. “I hope to be able to discuss this matter in more detail at a later date. In the interim, I will seek both spiritual advice and guidance.”

“Blood of the lamb”? I guess in his case it would be the “bodily fluid of the hustler..” let"s see.. this seems to happen a lot to these chaste hetro “family ” type preachers..i.e. jimmy swaggert ,paul crouch, jim bakker. etc. well in paul crouch’‘s case could you blame him for finding temptation with a man ?...has anybody seen Mrs. Jan Crouch lately?
she could turn any man gay.
