On C-span 2 right now…

Rev. Alan Jones of Boston University quoted a passage of Sam’s and called it “crap”.

Stephen Prothero, author of “Religious Literacy…” , admits in the Q & A that he has “no idea where religion came from…  Maybe it was God. “

Blood boiling amusment. Maybe it will repeat later….

For some reason I didn’t here the word “crap” used. Sam was called “ignorant” I think more than one time. Apparently Sam’s appalling error was that he writes that religions have “propositions” and make “truth-claims” which these religions and their adherents take seriously. The example he uses was Sam’s treatment of the catholic doctrine of transubstantiation. The two of them end up concluding that Sam is accurate about the doctrine even though it is used to prove Sam’s “ignorance” of religion. Obviously, religion doesn’t have an easy time dealing with these ideas.

I didn’t mean to imply this was on the Internet. I meant that booktv is airing it again this weekend.

I posted this in other reading since it’s mostly about Prothero’s book.

I don’t get the logic behind BookTV’s online archiving.  There’s only a handfull of carefully selected programs available at a time, and no way to find which ones are online and which ones you have to catch on air.  You’d think with national funding they’d be able to have an entire weekend’s worth online.
