Edit: The pic below was from last summer when Bruce Burleson and Sander met in person.  Bruce on the right.

So how’d that go? “Hey fuckwit, nice to see you!” “Yeah man, thought I’d piss you off in person!” “Cool!”

Seems you are on a mission, Bruce ... Salt Creek? Sander?

He’s met with several.  He even hinted that he’d drive over to meet me if it weren’t from the 12+ hour commute from where he was going to be in Manitoba a while back.

I think he’d have been disappointed, though.

Calgary is in my future plans - just don’t know when. I’ll look you up.

Bruce, well, apart from the great character flaws of being a theist and an attorney, as well as a Texan, you do have the saving grace of a decent beard and more hair than I’ve had in years, so maybe there’s some small hope for you.

Truth, especially “moral truth,” is that elusive human creation whose exclusive apprehension is claimed by many, who then sanctimoniously condemn anyone else who does not agree with their particular apprehension, while denying that any question can be posed about their own apprehension.  I will try to avoid that tendency.  DEC

Just this thread alone should be inflating Bruce’s ego with all the great comments from everyone,  quite a popular guy.  Why would anyone want to go all over the world to meet people like us?  He must be a special person to do such things.  I already know what our meeting would be like.  It is one thing to write on bulletin board, another thing to meet in person.

However, in spite of all the meanness that comes out of me on this forum, I’m really a nice guy.

That may take me a while to believe.

My guess is Bruce gets more attention on here than on the run-of-the-mill religious blogs. He seems to want to spend a lot of time “pissing off atheists” instead of co-mingling with the chosen people. When you think about it, he seems to actually like atheists and enjoys our company and conversations.  That isn’t surprising, because—well—-what is the alternative?  Spending time with religious people?

Maybe he likes it because of all the attention he gets here. But you are right, religious people are boring. I was involved in stuff like that once upon a time. My parents were very religious people, for what? They left and so did everything they worked for all their lives.

In my VAST experience with religious discussion forums, it occurs to me that the religious spend a lot of time congratulating each other on being religious.

You don’t seem the type to hang out in such sites. Why would you punish yourself in such a way?

Well their religion is a lie and they have to lie to themselves to try and believe it. It’s a whole lot easier to live a lie if you have support group constantly reinforcing it.

Reminds of Henry Rollins song “Liar”.

Liar:

You think youre gonna to live your life alone
In darkness
And seclusion
Yeah I know
Youve been out there
Tried to mix with those animals
And it just left you full of humiliated confusion
So you stagger back home
And wait for nothing
But the solitary refinement of your room spits you back out onto the street
And now youre desperate
And in need of human contact
And then
You meet me
And you whole world changes
Because everything I say is everything youve ever wanted to hear
So you drop all your defenses and you drop all your fears
And you trust me completely
Im perfect
In every way
Cause I make you feel so strong and so powerful inside
You feel so lucky
But your ego obscures reality
And you never bother to wonder why
Things are going so well
You wanna know why?
Cause Im a liar
Yeah Im a liar
Ill tear your mind out
Ill burn your soul
Ill turn you into me
Ill turn you into me
Cause Im a liar, a liar
A liar, a liar

Ill hide behind a smile
And understanding eyes
And Ill tell you things that you already know
So you can say
I really identify with you, so much
And all the time that youre needing me
Is just the time that Im bleeding you
Dont you get it yet?
Ill come to you like an affliction
And Ill leave you like an addiction
Youll never forget me
You wanna know why?
Cause Im a liar
Yeah Im a liar
Ill rip your mind out
Ill burn your soul
Ill turn you into me
Ill turn you into me
Cause Im a liar, a liar
Liar, liar, liar, liar

I dont know why I feel the need to lie
And cause you so much pain
Maybe its something inside
Maybe its something I cant explain
Cause all I do
Is mess you up and lie to you
Im a liar
Oh, I am a liar

If youll give me one more chance
I swear that I will never lie to you again
Because now I see the destructive power of a lie
Theyre stronger than truth
I cant believe I ever hurt you
I swear
I will never to you lie again, please
Just give me one more chance
I will never lie to you again
I swear
That I will never tell a lie
I will never tell a lie
No, no
Ha ha ha ha ha hah haa haa haa haaa
Sucker
Sucker!
Oh, sucker
I am a liar
Yeah, I am a liar
Yeah I like it
I feel good
Ohh I am a liar
Yeah
I lie
I lie
I lie
Oh, I lie
Oh I lie
I lie
Yeah
Ohhh Im a liar
I lie
Yeah
I like it
I feel good
Ill lie again
And again
Ill lie again and again
And Ill keep lying
I promise

I agree that religion is enjoying its last days. Only four out of ten Catholics go to church. In Europe and South America it is one in ten.

While it is true that science classes have robbed churches of some of their smartest young people, I believe that the Bible itself has led a lot more away. Intelligent people know that snakes do not talk. They know that mental illnesses are not caused by demons. They know that Jesus was an outspoken socialist, yet many of his followers are among the most staunch supporters of the great monopoies and cayons of wealth that comprise modern society.

Two of todays the most outspoken atheists were at one time fundamentalist prechers, Dan Barker and Farrel Till. These men attended Christian Universities and were converted through Bible study. By careful study they found many contridictions, which were never pointed out in Bible classes.www.freewebs.com/thomascrosthwaite/

Not sure about that, although I hope thats true. I think we have a good century or so to go still.

Lots of educating and enlightening yet still to happen. Oh and scientific discovery.
