Will last year’s Arab Spring be followed by this year’s U.S. Spring?

Here’s some of what’s happening…

Impossible to be honestly sure about this, since I thought the occupy movement might reach critical mass. My gut says No, but then again, my gut is full of shit from time to time

I believe a “U.S Spring”, could happen in a few different ways, but to achieve any genuine long term, (and in my opinion), positive change, what must take place is a radical, fundamental shift in societies basic moral and ethical values. We need to stop valuing profit above all else. Here’s a blog I wrote about winning at business that explains my point of view.

I’m not sure how, or if we can get there. One of the prices we’ve paid for all our wiz-bang technology is we no longer have any vision of the future, which makes it very easy to go for what we can get today, and not worry about tomorrow. Not that many generations ago, our vision of the future was almost as clear as our vision of the past. A man knew his great-grandchildren would be farming, or ship building, or soldiering, exactly as he did, which was exactly as his great-grandfather did. Now, it’s a very real possibility that the jobs our grand-children will be doing haven’t even been invented yet.

If there is someway though, that we, as a society, can somehow make things like integrity, honor, reputation, loyalty, decency… old school values, (values that I believe are reflected by our country’s Founding Fathers), more important than profit, we might just achieve a “U.S. Spring”. Without a basic, massive, and universal change in attitude though, any shift of wealth or power will result in the same problems with different players, without really changing what’s wrong.
