Just stumbled over this one today, a short debate held around easter between an outspoken member of the swedish humanist society and an ex tv show host and outspoken Christian of the most profoundly ignorant kind. On the whole a lousy debater too, he is just all over the place.

The debate is subtitled in english and the debate cuts between studio talk to street interviews with “ordinary” people, asking them about their relation to religion.

To people, especially from the United States it might give an insight into the different religious climate in Europe. Because there is definately distinctions to be drawn compared to the debates seen in the United States, both good and bad differences I might add.

Just to further insight into new atheist material that might probably sneak most other people on this board by I also find this interesting interview with Björn Ulvaeus, writer and composer and former member of the swedish pop export abba.

I am envious of Sweden’s secular society. I hope I can visit there someday. I fear that most Americans would not want to watch a debate like this. It is likely that many would never listen to one side or the other. Most likely, most of us Yanks would prefer to watch an idiotic reality show rather than use any cognitive skills. In my area, you would have a very hard time finding a person on the street who would admit in public to being an atheist.

I’ll keep searching for atheist material in national media since its a source of content that most of you might miss.

I’m linking a short inverview with Ayaan Hirsi Ali on the weekly swedish debate program Agenda.
