I watched a special tonight on CBS called The Lord’s Boot Camp.
The show follows 3 teen-aged girls through this camp that features evangelical Christianity and hard labor. The students get to pick their own course of study. Two opt for missionary work and the other one picks proselytizing. The one that picks evangelism wants to save 300 souls on her mission. Her name is Taylor and she’s real bossy and quite the in-your-face type. There’s a scene when she at the fair grounds in Indiana and goes up to people and asks them if they want “to take a survey.” Among the questions is “Do you know of a man named Jesus?” and “Do you believe you’ll go to heaven when you die?” At one point, a mother and daughter who are both Mormons, are accosted by her. She starts to evangelize to the girl, who appears slightly older than Taylor, when an elderly man who is part of their team takes the mother aside so Taylor can do her magic on the girl. Then she says on camera that it was a good experience to help her find Jesus because she didn’t realize the strange things Mormons believe. Yeah, she said that. She also “saves” an elderly women in a nursing home.
When Taylor grows up, she’ll be a Republican and support war and bans on abortion and gay marriage. She’ll either run for president or have her own megachurch.
