Try reading the book. I think that Sam is simply saying don’t put your faith in anything. As I read him Sam advocates using whatever is availabe to humans (human reasoning, human experience and information from the real world) to solve problems rather than reliance on an unsustantiated unprovable belief system.
Good response, Ray, to which I’ll add that Sam’s interest in examining the cognitive foundations of belief (all belief, not just religious belief) speaks volumes about his emphasis upon perception, as opposed to belief, as the foundation of rational thinking.
