Koestler: The Literary and Political Odyssey of a Twentieth-Century Skeptic Scammell, M.

Koestler was a weather-vane and lightning rod for the most extreme ideas of the 20th century, and spent his entire life careening from one philosophical extreme to another.
Scammell has written a sympathetic biography of this (to my mind) deeply unsympathetic man. Scammell knows the territory well, and has Included rafts of new material from the Koestler archives.
