What’s Left?: How the Left Lost Its Way Cohen, N.
If you have read Paul Berman’s book ‘Terror and Liberalism’, you will recall a chapter called ‘Wishful Thinking’. There Berman told the stories of Western liberals that were unable to take sides with Western governments against ferociously evil enemies. They either thought that their own societies were not worth defending, or they sympathized with the other side.
Nick Cohen has basically expanded Berman’s account into a full length book “What’s Left?: How the Left Lost Its Way”, and the result is rather devastating. Liberals appear generally unable to defend their values precisely when they are needed most.
