There has been an Incident here at the forum. A mishap.

The forum has shrunk by more than 12,000 posts. Here are all the details and backstory leading up to the incident…

I noticed Brother Mario was logged in during New Year’s weekend. I dashed off a PM inviting him to post a holiday greeting and switched on his posting privileges. He was gone before he saw it. I switched him back off.

He appeared on the active list again a few weeks ago and I assumed he saw my invite. I switched him back on. Nothing happened. Until yesterday. I was napping. I did not see what or where he posted. Then Dennis, thinking he was only deleting the new posts, dropped the full hammer of account deletion upon the BM. This was over-eager on Dennis’s part. It should have been left for me to deal with.

The Dump and The Jar are gone along with everyone else’s contribution to them. All BM threads and posts have been deleted. It is unlikely to be reversable.

Long ago, when the PR Forum merged with the Harris Forum, Mr. Campbell lost all of his posts. They were recovered by the Ubers.

The existence of The Dump and The Jar were frequently debated with strong opinions on both sides. The debate is over.

This is of no immediate inconvenience to our patrons but we believe the matter should be fully disclosed.

My due regrets; had thought BM was long banished and had snuck back as has happened before.  When I saw him chose ban but not to delete all of his posts, just the three.

While I hope his 12,000 posts can be restored, and will be very careful in future on the admin “ban” option, I’m not apologizing for this mess.  A combination of insufficient experience with admin powers, no notification of resurrection of a banished poster

Shit happens.  But I screwed up.  Period.  Regrets but no apology.  Us kindly old farts aren’t all that concerned about passing accidental goofs.  Unless they reduce my investments.

The incident has been undone. What a surprise. Thanks be to the Ubers.
