Like quantum physics, neuroscience is now being used to reveal new psuedo ‘knowledge’ I hope Sam doesn’t ride this wave much longer…
I find this essay pretty honest. It’s too early in this field of science to draw absolutist conclusions and become dogmatic. Check out the ‘Free Will’ debates on this very board. It gets crazy.
Here are some absolutist conclusions:
This text (of which I’ve linked notes) was followed by 50+ years of research into the workings of the unconscious and the self-image; it’s not a subgroup of psychology that many academicians (ever the book-pushers) like to discuss.
Now we have Newsweek participating in the growing mass insanity (read and share Sam’s response!), suggesting that there is peer reviewed scientific evidence of ‘heaven.’ This new ‘fact’ is spreading like wildfire across facebook. Now Deepak and Sylvia Brown can sell even more books! Our specialized cable channels like History and Science are even in the act fulltime. Welcome to the new, improved world of pseudo-scientific mysticism. Obviously its not new as evidenced by the above link. In fact, the mystics have always exploited the latest science to endorse their supernatural beliefs. Sad.
