There is a fabulous article by David Morris, posted at Alternet, that makes a number of points similar to those expressed in The End of Faith. Here is the introductory summary of The End of Reason:

Organized religion elevates superstition to an entirely new level, so let's call its institutions by their proper name: superstition-based institutions.
