Coldplay
Viva La Vida lyrics
I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemies eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
“Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!”

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt, and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
Once you know there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in.
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People could not believe what I’d become
Revolutionaries Wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
I know Saint Peter won’t call my name
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world

Hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can not explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Rab, how did I completely miss your previous reply which included the link to Lerher’s Vatican Rag?  Moderator Mojo?  If not, my bad.  Still, great choice for this thread.  I’m glad someone beat me to it because it belongs here.

I forgive you!  LOL At least they were different videos.

Some great stuff on this thread.

Here’s some more. The Death Song—Marilyn Manson (with bible speech)

Jeanie: “Can’t help myself - help me belt it out, Iso!”

Consider it done Jeanie! Sure have missed ya, you fellow fucking minority!

Jeanie: “Jeez, I love Green Day.”

Me too! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!  shock WTF are Billie, Mike and Tre doin’ these days anyway? Too many “green” days? You really have to go see the NIN “Lights in the Sky” tour: it’s kickin’ some five dimensional ass!

Cold Play, aye,  Beam? Got to love the Cold Play! Aw, the bloody synchrony, I heard “Viva La Vida” just this morning on my way to fetch coffee.  JeruSALEM’s bells: What could it possibly mean?!

A free for all, fuck ‘em all! Cause I wanna be…

What’s up with Depressed Mode though… I mean Depeche Mode. Their ‘criticisms of religion’ songs sound the same as their unrequited love songs.

No se on Stipe and the boys… the only REM song that remotely criticizes religion is more of a reaction to the religionist’s judgments of Stipe in particular. “New Test Leper” from the much ignored, but wonderfully brilliant,  New Adventures in Hi-Fi comes to mind:

Safe to say Saint Peter won’t be callin’ any of our names!

Great thread idea rab!

Bad Religion by Godsmack

[Preacher:] The word of God says that we will recieve
praise of God. God will begin to speak forth, our
Righteousness is of him, sayith the Lord
[Music Begins]

Get back

Can you feel Im not like you anymore.
I cant see,
I cant breathe.
See you quiver like the dogs on the street,
Looking down on as I beat you.
Oh, its a bad religion,
From a broken nation.
Its a contradiction,
And I cant take it anymore, yeah.
Whos ta say I wont like you anyway?
Take a deep breath,
Im alive.
Can you hear me,
Im alive inside you.
Agony creeps up behind you.
Oh, Its a bad religion (Bad religion)
From a broken nation (A broken nation)
Its a contradiction,
And I cant take it any f***ing more
Its a bad religion (bad religion, bad religion, bad religion)
From a broken nation (Broken nation)
Its a contradiction.
Yeah.
Can you feel it?
I gotta live with it everyday
And I cant take the pressure.
Im goin’ insane,
Now go away

Go away

[Preacher:] Now you start praising God where ever you
are. I dont care where you are, I dont care what is
happening, just begin to praise God, just begin to
praise him and praise him and praise him and praise
him and worship him, and bless him… [Trails off]

How could I forget the Vaselines, “Jesus Doesn’t Want Me for a Sunbeam”
best known for the cover Kurt Cobain performed in unplugged:

Jesus don’t want me for a sunbeam. ‘Cause sunbeams are not made like me.
Don’t expect me to cry for all the reasons you had to die. Don’t ever ask your
love of me.

Don’t expect me to cry.
Don’t expect me to lie.
Don’t expect me to die for thee.

Jesus don’t want me for a sunbeam. ‘Cause sunbeams are not made like me.
Don’t expect me to cry for all the reasons you had to die. Don’t ever ask your
love of me.

Don’t expect me to cry.
Don’t expect me to lie.
Don’t expect me to die.
Don’t expect me to cry.
Don’t expect me to lie.
Don’t expect me to die for thee.

sorry, couldn’t find a link to the performance.

Hey Ool, loved the fucktard bit in the link!

Can’t say I disagree completely,
but at least there’s a ‘warning’, stating she’s acting,
from the ones who produced and posted the video:
“OFFICIAL STATEMENT: THIS VIDEO FEATURES A TALENTED YOUNG ACTRESS PLAYING A FICTITIOUS CHARACTER. IT IS A COMMERCIAL…”
