the head coverings that muslim women wear?

I work at a front desk in a healthcare facility so I talk to hundreds of people a day. About once a week a muslim family comes in (not the same family) and all the women in the family are usually wearing burkas. even the smallest child was no older than 12 (as fas as I could tell from her voice and shape of her body. I couldnt see her face).

am I wrong in my assumption that women wear these to fend off the lustfull thoughts of men?

Is it wrong that Im kind of tunred on by them (not the children but the burkas themselves)? haha

There are a number of names for different forms of covering.

The hijab is a scarf covering the neck and hair. The jilbab (a word which actually appears in the Qur’an is a robe that covers the form of the body. The Khimar is another word for the head scarf. The Abaya is the black robe worn by women in the gulf. And the Burqa is the covering that we have seen on Afghan women. Sometimes the Abaya, Jilbab and Burqa are called by the other simply because there isn’t much difference.

It is all about power and control,,,Muslim men like to control their women,,,some make them wear burkha’s some cut the clitoris of with a blunt knife and no anisthetic,,,just so they can’t enjoy sex,,,therefore they will not look at another man and think of being with him and leaving me,,,oh poor me ,,no they won’t leave me because she has no pleasure in sex,  so she shall be with me because I cut out her clit ,,..I usualy refer to religion as insane,,,because it is,,,it doesn’t matter if it’s a sweat little christian scene,,or a nasty war and madness religion,,,it’s all the same madness,,christianity,,,Islam,,,Voodoo, all the same madness,,Most of the people in this world are religous,,,Most of the people in this world are insane,,,THE WORLD IS INSANE…

To each his own, but I think its the domination of the woman that’s making you hot.

Lets be honest here.

Every man likes to cover his girlfriend, or a wife, to some extent.

Which man does not hate other men scanning lustfully at their sister or daughter?

Therefore, the concept of hiding the beauty of women is common among all men.

Men do seem to agree with the idea.

We are not as “FREE” as we pretend to be.

,,Wrong,,,hiding the beauty of a woman is only practised in some parts of the world,,,the world is very different to what you were brought up in . Some cultures show off the beauty of their women,,,ancient cultures some of them used to go around with the breasts bare and nudity was common in some societies . Covering up is entirely different to cutting out ones clitoris,,,there is only one way to explain that practise,,“COMPLETELY INSANE”,,,anybody trying to defend such madness is mad themselves,,!!!

To answer the question about what different types of Muslim female dress ; it is as I understand it : the scarf is called the hijab- they are long piece’s of clothe to cover hair, neck, and sometimes shoulders. The word “hijab” means to cover, or screen in Arabic. The chador : the full bodied cloak the Muslim women of Iran use.Of course there are other garments like it by other names, depending on which country those women are in. The chador covers everything but the face. The burka comes in different variations, but in it’s most conservative form it thoroughly envelopes the face and body , with just a small veil over the eyes so she can see. That seeing can be very difficult for some women because it leaves only tiny TINY holes to look through. The women of Afghanistan wear this . It is required by the Taliban . This outfit is so hiddious and , like all the other mandatory Muslim female coverings completely unfair. I think that opinion of mine is shared by most women.

There is some speculation about WHY the Muslim woman is required to cover up so. There is a big deal about the “purlty” of females in the Muslim mindset. It really is the measuring stick of a woman’s acceptability in that society. The men always answer, when asked about women’s covers by saying that all they want is for her to be modest and that archaic type of dress is to “protect” her. That is the man’s way of excusing himself from giving in to “natural” temptations. He is weak; and lust seems to overcome him at the sight of any part of a woman’s bare body but the face, and sometimes even that. The woman, instead of getting sympathy, is accused of causing rape; she is blamed, because it is assumed that she tempted a man , or men. That excuses the man from taking the blame and being weak , lascivious, and immature lack of responsibility . Blaming the woman lets the man off the hook . It is a society of men who are afraid of women when you come right down to it. Islam is obsessed with women’s “purity “. The burden of virtue is on her shoulders. If she isn’t that way honor killing is her reward.

And it is time to learn Godfreelovejoy . Yes- down through the ages men have thought that a certain amount of covering is best for a female, but , with maybe a few exceptions, never as bad as the Muslim dress habit , and their impossing this on women is an old, old deal in this modern world. They are hundreds of years behind times. Quit making excuses for it; it super-sucks. Ask yourself how YOU would like that kind of outfit impossed on YOU . It is the very symbol of Muslim dogmatic theology and religious injustice. As I said - quit making excuses for it and for your sake, mine, and everyone else’s actually, get some perspective on the whole subject of Islamic injustice. Women’s dress is only part of it . PLEASE.

Thanks b00ger ( why don’t you find another name ? )  ; all I know is I thought I was using this forum the way I’ve always been using it, but I guess I must have developed some loose screws because something isn’t working as usual. Anyhow, GODFREELOVEJOY I hope you read me !  This is your cue to take the stage. At least let me know you understand better now ....and if I underestimate you , or anyone else here for that matter I beg your pardon..

Dee, sometimes we pick our names and sometimes they pick us. In this case, it is the latter. If it helps, think of the lovable stoner from Revenge of the Nerds instead of nose slime.

,,,Hi Dee,,,people are all so different,,some of us a Ferrari’s,,,and some of us are Scoda’s,,,one rule almost never fits all,,I am a nudist,,,I like going to greet a group of people some of them strangers,,,women single or not,,young and old,,and we all enjoy sitting around naked,,socialising,,,I pluck my pubic hairs so my genitals are fully exposed and I like women who do the same . Now lets just look at why a man thinks it’s his right to tell you a woman what you should wear . In the west,,trying to tell a woman what to wear would be like telling her she needed to loose weight,,!!!,,,not advised if you want to continue your relationship . So your muslim man thinks that god is at the top,,then him then you then children then animals,,,,in the west we have a saying,,,“if a persons cruel to animals ,they are also probably cruel to children and people in general"So children have rights,,,women have rights,,,these rights are not determined by any one religion,,,these are Human Rights International,,,a group or body that are trying to defend the rights of people regardless of which madness they are brought up in . You should be able to say NO to your husband,,,anytime on any matter,,,and he has NO right to force you to change your mind,,No right to physicaly or mentally attack you . You should never fell threatened by your husband,,,he is the one that should protect you and make sure you are never assaulted,,,So the law is plain,,you don’t have the right to force any other adult to do anything,,regardless of whether they are your husband or you brother,,,they do not have the right to control you . Now Dee,,how does that stack up with the way muslims see human rights???????

I agree Gad, but it takes all kinds I guess. I only hope he lives in a warm environment .

Lovejoy : About women and coverings, sorry , your idea doesn’t hold water—-what women SHOULD be allowed to wear or do is ONE thing and what they actually DO is two different things. In this case it IS a matter of religion, so don’t be afraid to call a spade a spade. And let me remind you, that idea that we should not criticize another man’s religion and that a person’s religion should be respected is MALARKEY . It’s a politically correct myth and unreasonable. Some religions aren’t respectable, and we darned well don’t HAVE to respect them. Keep that in mind.

Takes all kinds to do what. That was not the nudity is natural argument, that is about a freaky genital fetish cult. I only hope they don’t live by me.
