What you should probably do at this point is to put a kind of meandering semi-melody to it and play that loudly from tall towers five times a day.

Will do.

Which brings up the pressing question: Dylan or Hendrix version???  Cuz if we have to hear Dylan’s voice loudly from tall towers five times a day, I foresee violence.

Great version by Clapton and Kravitz.

It always gets weird when we do this.

Women posters have not been more whiny than men posters. Ms. Brugger has not ratted out anyone or complained to the mods about anything. There was no intention to depict women as damsels, sensitive or in need of special treatment. I’m suggesting that there already is a special treatment and one that women had little to do with and this forum would be better without it. I’d say it is because I want this place to be the best but I really have no idea what other forums do or how they are managed.

No one is f*cking superior for using or not using pr*fanity. I use it but avoid it in certain settings. I think that a forum that does not needlessly put off a whole cadre of poster is superior to one that does.

No Smoking would be easier to enforce.

I was hoping for less limits on my expression by casting certain issues on a high shelf where no one including me can reach them. If this were all taking place on the Harris’s back patio and he paid for all the beer, what would you bring to the party?

Even weirder… while posters were voicing their views on pr#fanity, I was exploring all the different ways one can say f*ck into a voice processor to make a listenable repeating ‘sample’ for one of the songs. Differents ones for each verse? Declarative? descending? How would Wally Cox say it? Or Sebastion Cabot? All my best articulations seem to come when I screw up the guitar parts. I wear headphones so it’s the only bit she can hear upstairs.

You can’t get more meaningful than that.

I’m struggling a bit to understand what’s fueling the current Forum language-use controversy. As a caveat in case I end up coming off sounding sarcastic in this small struggle—though I’m only rarely sarcastic, and obviously sarcastic when I am, I hope—I’m being serious here.

Ever since Jeff’s infamous, rebellious, and mistakenly-considered-to-be-dubious anti-profanity thread that loquaciously played itself out years ago, the Forum (both P-R and now S.H.) has been an Internet oasis of word-choice compassion. I could count the anger-driven profanities on one hand that have arrived since that momentous and monumental thread, though my eye-witness memory is of course not very good. But prior to that thread, wild-west style independence prevailed. I sort of enjoyed it to some extent, but I always knew that it lacked maturity. Things are better now. We’ve recovered and reorganized post-Salt Creek. Even Salt Creek seems to have recovered and reorganized, and has exited the premises as a regular.

Nhoj and Martin do not reinvent the wheel with their recent Rules. Everything they promote in the new rules is already steadily in place. Certain things just needed to be reiterated and shuffled around due to the complicated presence of Mario the Cursing Preacher, it seems to me. The only new bit of information I’ve noticed and taken in is that “c*** ” is not a ready-for-prime-time word. Maybe it will be some day, but who the fuck cares? Right now, it’s an unspeakably ugly word and it’s not a word that I feel any need to see anywhere, including “mixed” company, whatever that may amount to. “C*** ” never was a mainstay around here, anyway. So what are we even discussing?

Sam Harris politely uses profanity at times. So do contributors to this forum. It seems simple to this simpleton (me), at least.

NV,

Re #66

Right on.  But likely Mario may not be a continuing issue.

I suspect it has nothing to do with profanity.

We (me included) all want to say what we want without having to ask permission.
The new guidelines restrict that ability.
That’s what the discussion is really about.

Not too worry.  I’ve never seen our admins act in an arbitrary manner.  You’re in no danger at all; neither are almost all here.  Those “sanctioned” had much warning, few as they have been.  My complaint is that they’ve never paid my popcorn commission, but pocketed it.

I’m sorry to say we mistakenly invested your commision in an Icelandic bank, we thought it would be safer that way, unfortunately we were wrong.
So here is a picture of a fluffy kitten… hopefully it will make up for it. grin

Are we allowed to make up our own definitions for real words?  For example, ‘fog.’
