I met my fourth atheist from the forum - LogicAndReason (Bryan), and his oldest son. We had dinner - very nice people.  Enjoyed it. So far, my experiences with atheists have been positive. Interesting.

I am totally unsurprised by your assessment.

Where are you in Canada, by the way?  I’m taking a road trip in August, driving north - “up the gut” of America, so to speak: Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, and on into Winnipeg, Manitoba. You close?

I live in Calgary.  Its about an 18 hour drive from Winnipeg.

Think of driving from Chicago, Illinois to Helena, Montana.

Edit: More like driving from St. Paul, Minnesota to Helena, Montana

Yeah, that’s a little too far away to meet.

Anybody else on the forum from Winnipeg, or Fargo, or Omaha, or Kansas City?

If you’re driving through Fargo and area, keep an eye out for that suitcase full of money that Steve Buscemi left at the side of the road!

After seeing Fargo, I don’t think I’ll actually stop there. I have a strange aversion to woodchippers.

Bruce, if you’re driving up through Oklahoma, swing on by and we’ll knock back some beers. Since Oklahoma is a Bible Belt state, you’ll feel right at home!

If you’re taking I-35 north, you’ll be driving through my area.

Bruce do you mean to say that LandR was not the typical Josef Stalin, Adolph Hitler, Pol Pot, Mao atheist? By God who could have thunk it!

I thought sure we all were pure evil!

I will be taking I-35 through OK, going and returning. Send me your cell phone by PM with instructions on where you are, and I’ll give you a call - probably on the return trip, as I will be driving hard to make KC the first day.

Bruce, I’m going to be in Texas from the 6th to the 13th of August. If you’re not out of town, I can take a drive down to Belton and look you up. We could have that beer that everyone in the forum has been hoping we would have together some day.

I know what you look like. Don’t worry, I’ll find you. It won’t be a meeting with Logic And Reason.

Excellent!. I get back in town from my vacation on August 9. Anytime from the 10th to the 13th is fine.

Wouldn’t this be kind of like matter and anti-matter meeting?  …An event of epic consequences in which the future of the universe is held in the balance??!!

You have to remember that my concept of “atheist” was almost totally informed by Mother Madalyn. She lived in Austin and was too loud for any other voice to be heard. The manner of her death was proof positive for many people that atheism was evil. She was the woman who dared God to strike her down, and He did. So, put that in context. The form of atheism that I have encountered here is of a different nature.

Kinda like the “when worlds collide” episode of Seinfeld.

Bruce: “The manner of her death was proof positive for many people that atheism was evil. She was the woman who dared God to strike her down, and He did.”

So getting murdered if “proof positive” that atheism is evil?
God didn’t strike her down, two-time murderer David Waters “struck” her down, and possibly raped her beforehand. Unless of course, Waters was merely an instrument of god…

I didn’t say I bought into this idea. But that is how many people interpreted it. God works in mysterious ways.  He used Nebuchadnezzar to punish the Jews, Attila to punish Rome, and Michael Jackson to punish Sander.
