This thread compiles a digital library of Sam Harris audio files. Everything here is available on the file-sharing site "FileCrunch". Direct links to my uploads are included throughout the posts that follow. Click the link to access downloads for this material. The download site is free, easy-to-use, has a simple interface, and doesn't require a fee, membership, or software download of any kind. The only disadvantage is that you must wait 20 seconds before each file can download. There are over 50 audio files posted, ranging from talk radio shows to live debates to lectures by Sam Harris. Please download as much as you can, since the site will periodically remove files that are not downloaded with some baseline frequency. I will post new audio on an ongoing basis so check back often.
Live at the NYPL, Sam Harris in conversation w/ Oliver McTiernan (Sept 25, 2006)
According to a recent Pew poll, three-quarters of all Americans believe the Bible is God’s word. To Steve Paulson of Salon.com, “Numbers like that make an outspoken atheist like Sam Harris seem either foolhardy or uncommonly brave.” In his first book, The End of Faith, Harris argued that much of the violence in the world today comes directly from people willing to live and die by sacred religious texts. The response to this book was thousands of letters from Christians excoriating Harris for not believing in God. Letter to A Christian Nation is his reply. In this open letter, Harris challenges the beliefs that form the core of fundamentalist Christianity and the influence that faith has on public life in our nation.
Integral Naked (with Stuart Davis), The End of Faith?, (May 22, 2006)
This is a fascinating dialogue exploring the very real problems of premodern religion threatening to undo a modern and postmodern world that has not yet found a way to uncover and integrate its own thread of spiritual intelligence, and therefore offer people a way out of the limitations of the religion of yesterday, and into the fullness of tomorrow. We invite you join in on this extraordinarily important and timely conversation….
Integral Naked (with Stuart Davis), The End of Faith?-Redux, (June 5, 2006)
Just a few minutes into the dialogue, Sam makes an incredibly clear statement regarding some of his views on religion and spirituality in today’s world. “We need more than simply a criticism of the waywardness of our present situation. We need a positive statement of human possibility, human potential, and the spiritual experience, which takes the place of Iron Age philosophy and these bogus ideas… Ultimately we need a coherent presentation of ritual and all the other features of religion that people may still find necessary, but we need all of that to be presented in a form that does not require any unjustified belief, any endorsement of divisive superstitions.”
Expanded Books (with R. Wetanson), Link Between Religion and Violence (Fall 2006)
Sam Harris caused a stir with his book, THE END OF FAITH, in which he argued for the deep link between religion and violence. In LETTER TO A CHRISTIAN NATION, he addresses the arguments readers have made in attempts to refute his claims.

Two new additions to the Sam Harris Archives—
Amazon Wire Podcasts, Extended interview w/ Sam Harris (Oct 19, 2006)
Welcome to Amazon Wire, an original, free podcast about books, music, movies, and those who create them. Interviews with Sam Harris about his recent book “Letter to a Christian Nation”. Truncated and extended interviews were posted to Amazon—I have posted both to the download site.
CBC Radio: Editor’s Choice, The End of Faith w/ Sam Harris (Nov 6, 2006)
Sam Harris has been called a heretic – and a very brave man. Harris, author of The End of Faith, believes that religious tolerance is a disaster in the making – but that political correctness and fear of racism make any discussion of his idea utterly impossible. His interview with Mary Hynes of Tapestry is our Editor’s Choice for today.
I just became an even bigger Sam Harris fan after listening to the Integral Naked interview. That is the level of conversation we need to move on to.
A new addition to my download list. Better than the On Point file, since this is downloadable to your computer as an mp3.
On Point: “The State of the Enlightenment”, (Dec 11, 2006)
In April, 1966, the cover of Time magazine asked “Is God Dead?” Well, “no” the answer turned out to be. Despite centuries of science, the Enlightenment’s resistance to religious dogma, and modernity’s romance with reason, faith has not only survived but made a huge comeback in recent years. Now a raft of books, some bestsellers, argue again that humans must get beyond religion to move forward. That fundamentalism and doctrine breed conflict and darkness. But could it be that, despite the pullback of the religious right in recent U.S. elections, it is still science and reason that are in deep retreat?
Yet another new addition (of an older show from 2004)—
The Current with Tom Harrington—End of Faith w/ Sam Harris (Dec 28, 2004)
Tis the season for family, friends and for many a reconnection with faith. But what would the season look like if there were no religion ... Athiest philosophers over the centuries dreamed up their own utopic visions of the world ... Nietzche declared that God is dead ... Marx sneered at religion, calling it the opium of the people.
Sam Harris is the author of The End of Faith: Religion, Terror and the Future of Reason. And he’s the latest in a long line of athiests who argues the world would be a much better place if people replaced faith with reason. He joined us from Los Angeles, California.
Just a reminder that the audio library above contains a clip of the Sam Harris’ extended interview from the DVD of “The God Who Wasn’t There”.
The God Who Wasn’t There (DVD), Extended Interview with Sam Harris
Bowling for Columbine did it to the gun culture. Super Size Me did it to fast food. Now The God Who Wasn’t There does it to religion. Holding modern Christianity up to a bright spotlight, this bold and often hilarious new film asks the questions few dare to ask. Your guide through the world of Christendom is former fundamentalist Brian Flemming, joined by such luminaries as Jesus Seminar fellow Robert M. Price, professor Richard Dawkins, author Sam Harris and historian Richard Carrier. See the movie the Los Angeles Times calls “provocative - to put it mildly.“Hold on to your faith. It’s in for a bumpy ride.
A very brief (8 min) interview on Connecticut talk radio with Sam Harris.
WTIC News Talk 1080, Colin McEnroe with Sam Harris (December 2006)
Sam Harris, author of “Letter to a Christian Nation” is on to talk about the book and beliefs of atheists.
2 episodes of an Australian talk radio show. I’ve posted both—only the second episode features Sam Harris.
Science Fatwah? - Part 1: Charles Harper Jr. and Richard Sloan
There are signs of a new anti-religion militancy on the part of scientists and atheists in the United States. In the first of a two part series, this week we speak to two of the protagonists at a recent science conference hosted by the Salk Institute in California.

Is There A God? Ask Sam Harris: 866 303-2270
November 28, 2006
Thomas Jefferson, a man who, because of his religious beliefs – or lack thereof—couldn’t get elected dog catcher if he were running for office today, put it this way: “Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because if there be one he must approve of the homage of reason more than that of blindfolded fear.“My guest tonight is a man who Jefferson would have loved. Sam Harris is the author of two extraordinary books, The End of Faith: Religion, Terror and the Future of Reason and his most recent book, Letter to A Christian Nation. He’s joining us for the hour and later in the program we will be taking some of your calls at 866 303 2270. This should be interesting…

“Atheist Brigade Takes Arguments to the Tolerant”
by Brooke Gladstone
December 15, 2006 · In response to the growing power of religious extremism, a small group of atheists has taken a new approach. Going on the offensive, they target the tolerant, with both reason - and ridicule. Brooke Gladstone, host of NPR’s On the Media, reports.
The video of this debate is currently available as a streaming, Real Player file on the Book-TV website. In addition, the audio track of this debate is now available as a downloadable mp3 in my Sam Harris digital library.
Debate on Religion and Reason with Sam Harris, “Letter to a Christian Nation,” and Reza Aslan, “No god but God”
Sunday, February 4, 2007 at 12:30 am and at 3:00 pm and at 10:00 pm
Description: Does the Bible provide timeless prescriptions for our daily lives? Or does its inclusion of practices such as slavery preclude its ability to act as such a guide? Reza Aslan, author of “No god but God,” and Sam Harris, author of “Letter to a Christian Nation,” take up these questions in this debate at the Los Angeles Public Library. The event also includes discussion on contemporary trends in Islam - including whether or not Muslims are unique in their religious fervor - and debate over the concept of the Koran as a perfect and immutable document. The debate is moderated by Jonathan Kirsch, author of “A History of the End of the World.”
Author Bio: Born in Iran, Reza Aslan is a regular commentator for NPR’s “Marketplace” and a Middle East Analyst for CBS News.
