Episode 461

Dictators Always Tell You What They'll Do

A Conversation with Garry Kasparov

February 25, 2026

Sam Harris speaks with Garry Kasparov about the erosion of American democracy and the global authoritarian threat. They discuss Trump's systematic corruption, the GOP's moral collapse, the 2026 midterms as a decisive moment for democracy, Trump's entanglement with Russia and Putin, what a Ukrainian victory would mean for the free world, why Putin's nuclear threats are a bluff, and other topics.

Garry Kasparov is the founder and chairman of the Renew Democracy Initiative, which publishes The Next Move on Substack. He became the youngest World Chess Champion in 1985. He is a pro-democracy activist and among Vladimir Putin's most prominent opponents. The Russian regime has designated Garry as a terrorist and issued a warrant for his arrest.
